Outreach/Mobile Van Services



BATF outreach program conducts outreach activities that actively engage high-risk individuals and HIV positive individuals on the MOBILE UNIT and in traditional settings to provide health education/risk reduction information as well as promote HIV testing & counseling, other agency services, recruit clients and make referrals for additional prevention/care. The program consists of 2 components: the mobile unit and community outreach through health fairs and workshops.

Mobile Unit: The Mobile Unit is stationed in several Brooklyn communities such as Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick, East New York, and Williamsburg. The unit provides a package of services that includes:

• STI Screens
• Mental Health and Substance Abuse screens
• HIV Testing & Counseling
• Syringe Distribution & Disposal (ESAP)
• Referral & Linkage to primary medical care and other services.

Mobile Unit Mental Health Screens: BATF mobile unit team offers mental health Screens to individuals who access the mobile unit for services. Screening by the Physician Assistant and/or trained staff. Individuals who indicate a need for additional mental health services are referred to the psychologist who administers the mental health assessments and oversees the clinical aspects of the program and a licensed mental health provider. Clients who have shown signs of severe mental health disorders are referred to the appropriate mental health services. The program maintains a lists of referral resources that are available to individuals who needs help. Appointments are scheduled through the clinic personnel.
